Ho(s)tel tips in México

While travelling in México we stayed in many ho(s)tels and flats, we really enjoyed almost everyone of them, so we are listing them for you with our own reviews. They are all very cheap but comfortable and clean at the same time, and, most important thing: WE NEVER HAD BED BUGS!

Hotel Sacbe

First of all we have to say that Coba is not the first thing you figure when you think of a good village, but has one of the best ruins in Yucatan and it located is near Punta Laguna, an amazing natural reserve.

Sac Be is a good choice if you want to stop one or two nights (like us) without day tripping a lot. It’s clean, simple and has tv and air conditioning, plus a small store underneath. They have a restaurant open at lunch with a vegetarian dish that they veganize on request, but for bigger choice and dinner we suggest the “Chile Picante”, a restaurant a few meters away.

Isla Mujeres

Apartments Trinchan

If you want a quieter place, with kitchen, tv and air conditioning, simple but with all conforts (and good price too, 40 dollars per night) you’ll like Apartments Trinchan. Short walking distance to Playa Norteand city center, here you’ll feel like home. Cleaning room service included. You have to get in contact with the owner to book: tel +52 998 1666967, mail atrinchan@prodigy.net.mx

Pocna Hostel

Very nice hostel especially for young people travelling alone. The atmosphere is funny, always a party and lots of activities and the location is wonderful. Playa Norte is just 3 minutes walk from here, city center too.

Hostal Trotamundos

We chose this hostel for its amazing price and its position near the city center. Very helpful for vegans as it offers the possibility to cook your own food in the kitchen. We slept in a double room with shared bathroom but it was really small and with old forniture. Nice and colorful common parts with hammocks and tv, if you want a very cheap choice is not bad at all. Just at the exit you have “Pola” icevream, where we ate the best vegan ice creams in Mexico! And at the end of the street you’ll find then vegan restaurant “Lo que hay café”.

Hotel Maria del Carmen

Good looking hotel with large rooms, swimming pool and nice garden plus very kind kitchen staff that prapares vegan food on request. They welcome very large groups and offer conference rooms. Fair price for the good position (5 minutes walk to the center) and services.

Hotel Medio Mundo

We visited this place for dinner, this hotel has a vegan restaurant, "Lo que hay café", a  very good looking garden and good position near the city center. Well decorated.

Posada del Angel

We chose this hotel for its position, it’s located very near to the bus station and the city center of Merida. The rooms are old but clean and have private bathrooms, the price is fair.

Valladolid

Hostal Frida

Located a 10 minute walk to the city and the bus station, we liked it in here bacause in this family guided hostel you feel like at home, new and simple good looking fornitures, very clean, and most of all you have the kitchen use. A given in a small city like Valladolid where it’s not that easy to eat vegan.

Tulum

In Tulum we went AirB&B for our first time. Lots of choices for all pockets...be careful because houses in Mexico are not build like in Europe and during rainstorms at night you can find yourself asleep keeping the floor dry. Our house was not bad at all, very poor water pressure from shower apart...but we spent 21$ per day. We suggest you choose one with bikes if possible, 8$ per day each bike for rent in stores was too much for us.

Not enough?

If you haven't find the perfect ho(s)tel for you in my list, just look for more option here for Yucatan and Quintana Roo 🙂
